Are your assessments leading to meaningful change?
Choosing the right assessment is the foundation for creating effective interventions. In this first installment of a two-part series, Libby Curts, MA, BCBA, explores how behavior analysts can move beyond insurance mandates and outdated habits to select assessments that truly serve their clients' individual needs.
We’ll dig into how assessments can be used not only to measure progress—but to drive socially significant outcomes, with the ultimate goal of promoting independence and reducing the need for long-term clinical support.
As Skinner (1975) stated, “One has most effectively helped others when one can stop helping them altogether" (p. 63).
What You Will Learn:
- Define the purpose of conducting skill assessments
- Name various types of assessments commonly used in ABA
- Differentiate between norm-referenced and criterion-referenced assessments
- Identify which assessments are most appropriate for learners at different skill levels
